You want smoother lines without looking frozen, and you want to know how long anti-wrinkle injections will actually last on your face. Most people see excellent smoothing for several months, but the exact length depends on things like the treatment area, muscle strength, dose and how your body processes the product. Below we explain typical timelines, why results vary between people, and how a gentle maintenance plan can keep results soft and natural rather than stiff or over-treated.

How Long Do Anti-Wrinkle Injections Last in Practice, Typical Longevity

Most clients see anti-wrinkle effects for somewhere between three months and nine months. Many people notice their strongest smoothing from about two weeks after treatment, with the effect holding well for 3 to 6 months for most. A smaller number of people keep visible benefit out to about nine months. The product we use exclusively, B'tox by Allergan, tends to wear off gradually. That means if you notice a little movement returning after a month or two, it is usually the very start of the drug wearing off rather than a sudden failure.
Expect a slow return of muscle activity rather than an abrupt change. If you prefer a consistently soft look, many clients choose retreatment at the four to six month mark.

Why Results Differ

Several personal factors change how long anti-wrinkle injections last. Your metabolism affects how quickly the body clears the product, so faster metabolisms can mean shorter duration. Muscle size and habitual facial movement matter: stronger muscles or frequent expressive movement can reduce how long smoothing lasts. The dose and exact placement also matter. Larger doses or more precise placement can give longer, more even results. Finally, lifestyle factors such as smoking, heavy alcohol, sun exposure and regular intensive exercise may shorten duration by increasing metabolic activity.
Age matters less than muscle behaviour. Two people of the same age can have different longevity because one has stronger forehead muscles or a job that involves lots of expressive talking. That is why consultations focus on how you use your face, not just your birth year.

How Area And Dose Affect Duration

Where you are treated changes how long the effect lasts. Small, delicate muscles around the eyes often show longer-lasting smoothing than very large muscles such as the jaw. This is partly because smaller muscles need less product to relax and partly because bite-related muscles behave differently. The dose also plays a clear role. A carefully calibrated dose that suits your muscle strength gives the right balance between lasting effect and natural movement.
At consultation we assess muscle strength and discuss the outcome you want. We aim for the minimum effective dose to avoid stiffness while giving durable results. For several areas it is common to plan a slightly larger initial dose followed by a maintenance dose later, which can extend the average interval between treatments.

Maintenance: Why Regular Top-Ups Help

Regular maintenance can make results look progressively softer and more consistent. When injections are repeated at sensible intervals, muscles learn to contract less strongly over time. This does not permanently stop the muscle, but it often reduces the degree of facial folding and allows lower doses to work well. Many clients find that after a year of regular top-ups they can have slightly longer gaps between treatments while keeping a natural, rested look.
We recommend watching how your face responds after an initial course, then planning maintenance around four to six months for many people. If you prefer longer gaps, a tailored plan and monitoring will help avoid an over-treated appearance while keeping movement natural.

What To Expect At Consultation

A safe consultation looks at your facial movement, medical history and cosmetic goals. We check for medications that can interact with treatment and discuss realistic expectations. You will be shown the typical timeline, possible side effects, and aftercare notes. We use B'tox by Allergan exclusively, because it tends to wear off gradually which helps avoid sudden changes in expression. That gradual wearing means a small return of movement after a month or two is usually the first sign of decline, not a problem.
If you are considering treatment, a consultation is the safest place to start. We see clients from Blackpool and the Fylde Coast and can advise on what would suit your face and lifestyle.
